Preseason Day One

The BK XC team got together for their first practice of the preseason. The team met at our secret Tuliptree Training Site for the customary workout and finished the session with the traditional post workout nutrition.

Our group has shrunk a little this year with the graduation of three of our seniors. We're hopeful to enlist some new athletes as the preseason continues.

Ian and Ricky (at right) contemplate the rigors of the upcoming season at the end of todays workout. Ian has reported to preseason training fit and ready, while Ricky...well, has reported to preseason training. Both Ian and Ricky are at the core of this years team and both have been running for several years. Ian, a junior; and Ricky, a senior, have potential to win races this season. Both will run winter track. You can expect to see Ian leading the pack in the 800 meter and mile. Ricky will be getting it done in the 300 meter.

Alicia and Jyl are moving in different directions this year. Alicia is making the jump to high school as a freshman this year and moving up to the varsity XC squad. Alicia has been a top performer as a modified runner. She's nailed several finishes within seconds of varsity times as an eight grader, including a fantastic finish at the McQuaid Invitational last year. Alicia is strong, natural runner indoors and out and we're sure she's going to chase down the competition at the varsity level!
Jyl is changing sports this year. After three years as a XC runner, Jyl has been recruited to the volleyball team and will be putting her athletic ability up to the net, blocking and spiking for the Lady Kings. There are big things on the horizon for both these girls.

Chris is returning to BKXC this season as a senior. He's coming off a most successful track season having secured three, yes, three, varsity shot put titles in the 2014/2015 track season. Chris is a fantastically well-rounded scholar athlete. We're looking forward to him putting up some big races in his second season as a cross country runner.

Scott is returning to the team as a sophomore this year. Scott is a bundle of raw running talent and perhaps one of the fastest sprinters we have. He has break-away speed as well as endurance to compete in the longer races.

Jackie has been running with BK XC since seventh grade. She has made remarkable progress as an athlete. Her spirit and wit keep the team (and coaches) on their toes! She is one of those runners who sets her mind to accomplishing something and just gets it done!

Rose is our quiet secret weapon. Rose is one of those runners that you can't hear coming up behind you until she passes you!
And thats our team so far. We're looking forward to the return of vacationing Sean and a couple of hold-outs to round out this crew. Below you can see these charters in their natural habitat and led by the amazing mountain biking Coach Sloan.
